Wen Chang Di Jun (文昌帝君 — Sovereign Lord of Literary Glory) is one of the most widely venerated deities in Chinese popular religion. His cosmological seat is the Wen Chang Palace (文昌宮) — a cluster of six stars in Ursa Major (the Big Dipper constellation region). Historical Origin: The cult of Wen Chang grew from the deification of Zhang Yazi (張亞子), a Tang Dynasty official executed for loyal service, gradually elevated to full deity status in the Song Dynasty.
