1. A Tradition of Protection (保命真傳)
The Peace and Safety Talisman (平安符 — Píng Ān Fú) is the most widely used and foundational protective technology in the Liuren lineage. Its metaphysical function is resilience: ensuring that the practitioner's spiritual and physical forms remain intact through the countless traumas of the secular world. What distinguishes the Liuren version is its foundation in lineage power (法力) rather than generic temple merit. Tang Dynasty Roots: This protection magic was refined in the Tang imperial court before being transmitted to the common people (Liu Min) as a form of Spiritual Insurance.
2. Three Modes of Deployment (三種用法)
| Mode | Technical Term | Best For | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carrying (佩戴) | 身中平安 (Internal Peace) | General daily shielding; protection during travel; high-risk work environments; chronic Sha exposure | 3–6 months; renew at Lunar New Year or after a significant negative event |
| Pasting (貼於) | 鎮宅平安 (House Peace) | Stabilizing the Qi of a room or vehicle; protecting children sleeping in a specific room | 1 year; always renew at Lunar New Year or after any major disturbance in the space |
| Consuming (服符) | 化水平安 (Water Peace) | Emergency protection when immediate absorption is needed; after trauma, accident, or severe spiritual exposure | Single-use; not a substitute for the longer-term Carrying mode |
3. High-Risk Contexts Requiring a Ping An Fu (高風險情境)
Certain professional environments generate elevated Sha Qi exposure: healthcare workers (daily exposure to disease Sha — 病氣, death Sha, grief Qi), frequent travelers (crossing multiple spiritual jurisdictions), construction workers (Earth disturbance Sha — 動土煞), security and law enforcement (hostile human Sha — 人氣煞), ritual practitioners (direct exposure to entity Sha during case work), and children in early years (0–7) whose energy body is incomplete.
4. Signs the Talisman Needs Renewal (需更換的徵兆)
A carried Ping An Fu is not permanent. Signs of depletion: the talisman has become visibly worn, torn, wet, or discolored; the talisman is found physically damaged after a near-miss accident; a sudden return of chronic Sha symptoms after a period of stability; a Weeping or Disaster Incense pattern when petitioning about its status; exactly one year has passed since the last renewal.
