1. The Art of Halting Hostility (止惡之法)

In Liuren Fajiao, Offense Stopping (止惡 — Zhǐ È) is the active counterpart to Non-Offending (Section 41). While Section 41 focuses on building the practitioner's internal immunity — making them harder to harm — Section 42 provides the rituals to halt the aggression of others at its source, whether that aggression is physical, verbal, social, or spiritual.

The critical distinction between Offense Stopping and counter-attack magic: Offense Stopping neutralizes hostile action — it freezes, grounds, or redirects it. It does not launch new hostile energy at the aggressor, does not seek to cause harm, and does not escalate the situation. A practitioner who uses these methods to actively harm another person, not merely to stop their harmful action, has crossed into Xie Fa (邪法 — Evil Law) territory.

2. Three Sources of Hostile Offense (三類惡行)

Accurate source diagnosis is the prerequisite for selecting the appropriate stopping method. The three sources require different ritual approaches — using a high-intensity method on a mild human offense is wasteful; using a mild method on a serious spiritual attack is dangerous.

Source Chinese Mechanism of Harm Diagnostic Sign Stopping Approach
Human Aggression 人為惡意 Deliberate malicious action by a specific person — verbal harassment, threats, legal action without basis, organized social harm, or physical intimidation Identifiable aggressor; pattern of deliberate harmful actions; escalating despite the practitioner's non-engagement Zhi E Fu (止惡符) + Jin Kou Seal to stop the harmful verbal action; Noble Benefactor petition to draw supportive third parties; Legal Avoidance protocols (Section 20) if the aggression involves legal threats
Spiritual Aggression 靈體攻擊 Entity-driven harm — a spirit or Sha force actively attacking the practitioner or client, causing health disruption, nightmares, sudden emotional instability, or physical symptoms without medical explanation Sudden onset symptoms after visiting a specific location or after a specific event; symptoms appearing between 11pm–3am (peak Yin hours); relief when away from home, worsening upon return Military Guardian (兵馬) dispatch to create a buffer; Evil Expulsion protocols (Section 11) for the entity dimension; Zhi E Fu seals the practitioner against the attack's continued effect while expulsion is organized
Sent Ritual Attack (黑術) 黑術攻擊 A hostile human practitioner uses ritual methods to harm the target — sending Sha, deploying cursing magic, or instructing an entity to attack the practitioner specifically Symptoms that began after a known hostile encounter with a practitioner; objects of unusual nature found near the home entrance; practitioners confirm ritual interference in diagnostic reading Simultaneous Zhi E stopping on the human source + counter-Sha clearing on the practitioner's field + altar petition to the Liuren Xianshi invoking celestial jurisdiction over the hostile practitioner's unauthorized attack

3. Functional Ritual Dynamics (止惡機制)

Stopping an offense involves "Freezing" or "Grounding" the malicious Qi of the attacker so they can no longer proceed with their hostile action. Three primary ritual mechanisms achieve this through different energetic principles.

Method Chinese Metaphysical Action Practitioner Result Degree Level
Zhi E Fu (止惡符) 止惡符 The talisman generates a specific "stopping frequency" that severs the "Intent-Cord" (意念繩 — the energetic thread connecting the aggressor's hostile intention to its target) so that the hostile action can no longer find its mark The aggressor's hostile actions fail to achieve their intended effect; they may experience an inexplicable loss of motivation to continue; obstacles spontaneously arise in their path Sanshanjiao+
Jin Kou Seal (金口禁) 金口禁 The "Golden Mouth Lock" — a specific talisman-and-incantation combination that "binds" the harmful verbal output of a specific aggressor. The seal operates on the spiritual dimension of speech, neutralizing the harmful intent embedded in the aggressor's words before it can manifest as social damage The aggressor's harmful statements lose their social traction; people who hear the harmful words find themselves dismissing them rather than believing them; rumors fail to spread as expected Sanshanjiao+
Military Overwatch (兵馬護衛) 兵馬護衛 Dispatching the Bing Ma (兵馬 — Spirit Soldiers) of the lineage altar to stand between the practitioner and the aggressor — creating both a physical and spiritual "Buffer Zone" that the aggressor must cross before their hostile action can reach the target Aggressors experience unexplained hesitation, distraction, or external obstacles that prevent them from executing their harmful plan; the spiritual buffer buys the practitioner time to organize more complete responses Zhongjiao+ (basic dispatch); Sanshanjiao (full Military overwatch)

4. Lineage Defense Philosophy (止惡正法)

Offense Stopping in Liuren is strictly Defensive. The practitioner acts as a stabilizer — neutralizing hostility before it can manifest into lasting harm, protecting the innocent, and preventing the aggressor from committing further spiritual or physical damage. The Altar's mandate is to maintain cosmic order, not to serve as a weapon for personal retaliation.

  • Righteous Command: The practitioner frames every Offense Stopping petition as a request for the cessation of illegitimate harm — not as an attack on the aggressor. The Liuren Xianshi governs the "Office of Human Affairs" and has celestial authority to revoke the efficacy of unauthorized spiritual attacks and illegitimate human aggression. The practitioner petitions this authority; they do not attempt to exercise it unilaterally.
  • Altar Mandate: The power to stop an offense comes from the alignment between the practitioner's request and the celestial order. When the aggressor's action genuinely violates cosmic justice (bullying the innocent, attacking someone without cause), the Altar endorses the stopping readily. When the situation is ambiguous — when the "aggressor" may have legitimate grounds for their action — the altar may not authorize the stopping, and the practitioner investigates further.
  • The Earth-Grounding Principle: All Offense Stopping work is directed downward — toward the Earth, which absorbs and neutralizes the stopped hostile energy rather than reflecting it back into the environment. This is why the primary deployment gesture for the Zhi E method uses the Sword-Finger pointed toward the earth.

5. Advanced Application: Mirror Reflection and Recovery (鏡反法與恢復)

Advanced Sanshanjiao practitioners employ the Mirror Reflection (鏡反法) technique when standard stopping methods are insufficient. When an attack is "Stopped" and grounded, the residual hostile energy is redirected back toward the sender's own awareness — not to harm them but to ensure they experience the consequence of their own hostile intention, creating a natural deterrent against continued attack.

  • Mirror Reflection Mechanism: The Sword-Finger is pointed downward to ground the hostile energy first; then a Mirror Flower Character is drawn facing the direction of the attack source. The mirror does not amplify the hostile energy — it simply ensures the attacker's own Sha returns to them proportionally, creating awareness of the karmic consequence of their action.
  • Post-Stopping Recovery: After stopping an offense, the practitioner always performs a Snow Mountain clearing on themselves to discharge any residual hostile Qi absorbed during the encounter.
  • Peace Fu Resealing: Every Offense Stopping operation must conclude with a Peace Fu activation to ensure the Iron Plate protection is fully resealed after the encounter.
  • Timing of Zhi E Work: Offense Stopping is most effective when deployed proactively — ideally before the hostile action has fully manifested.
