Yang Gong Feng Shui (楊公風水)
Yang Yunsong (楊筠松, 834–900), also known as Yang Jiupin or Yang Gong (Master Yang), is universally recognised as the founding patriarch of Chinese Feng Shui. Originally serving as the Gold-Purple Light Emissary Great Officer (金紫光祿大夫) in the Tang Dynasty imperial court, he fled south to Jiangxi province during the Huang Chao Rebellion, carrying the palace's geomantic texts with him.
The Two Pillars
Yang Gong's system rests on two complementary pillars:
- Form School (形勢派): Reading the natural landscape — Dragon veins (龍), Acupoints (穴), Sand formations (砂), Waterways (水), and Facing direction (向).
- Compass School (理氣派): Numerical calculations using Heavenly Stems, Earthly Branches, Trigrams, and Nine Stars on the luopan compass.
Major Lineage Schools
- Zeng School (曾派): Founded by Zeng Wenchang at Sanliao village, the most orthodox continuation.
- Liu School (劉派): Founded by Liu Jiangdong, keeper of the secret Xie Zi Fa (些子法) method.
- Liao School (廖派): Founded by Liao Jinjing, master of Dragon Gate (龍門) acupoint methods.
- Lai School (賴派): Founded by Lai Buyi, integrating 24 Heavenly Stars with compass analysis.
Derivative Systems
From Yang Gong's foundations, numerous specialised schools emerged: San He (三合派, Three Harmonies), San Yuan (三元派, Three Cycles), Xuan Kong Flying Stars (玄空飛星), Xuan Kong Liu Fa (玄空六法), and Xuan Kong Da Gua (玄空大卦), among others.
