Form School (形勢派)
The Form School, also known as Luan Tou Pai (巒頭派), is Yang Yunsong's original method and the foundation of all Chinese Feng Shui. It prioritises direct observation of the natural landscape over numerical compass calculations.
The Five Assessments
- Dragon Seeking (尋龍): Tracing the mountain range (龍脈) from its ancestral peak (太祖山) through successive transformations, identifying the nine dragon morphologies according to the Nine Stars classification in the Han Long Jing.
- Acupoint Recognition (點穴): Locating the precise point where qi concentrates — requiring the four guardian formations: Green Dragon (left), White Tiger (right), Red Phoenix (front), Black Tortoise (back).
- Sand Assessment (察砂): Evaluating surrounding hills and elevated features. Auspicious sand guards and supports; inauspicious sha (煞) creates harmful energy.
- Water Analysis (觀水): Assessing water ingress and egress directions, flow speed, and clarity. Water accumulates qi; its proper management is essential for wealth.
- Facing Determination (立向): Setting the final orientation based on the integration of all four preceding assessments.
The Nine Star Dragon Morphologies
From the Han Long Jing: 貪狼 (Greedy Wolf), 巨門 (Giant Gate), 祿存 (Fortune Preserved), 文曲 (Literary Curve), 廉貞 (Incorruptible), 武曲 (Military Curve), 破軍 (Broken Army), 左輔 (Left Assistant), 右弼 (Right Support).
