The Five Officers: Guardians of the Facial Map

五官:面部地圖的守護者

The Five Officers (五官)

The Five Officers (五官, Wu Guan) are the five key facial features that serve as the primary assessment points in Mian Xiang. Each officer has a specific life domain, age range of maximum influence, and set of ideal characteristics and warning signs.

1. Ears (耳) — The Vigilante/Collector (採聽官)

Governs early life (ages 1–14) and the quality of inherited constitution. Well-formed ears with thick lobes, set high, close to head, with clearly defined features: good early luck, intelligent, supported childhood. Thin, damaged, low-set ears with indistinct features: difficult early years, health challenges in childhood. The ears are the 'first impression' of constitutional strength.

2. Eyebrows (眉) — The Insurer/Protector (保壽官)

Governs peak years (ages 31–34). Long, thick, well-arched, lustrous brows: longevity, strong willpower, good sibling and peer relations. Short, sparse, broken or connected brows: stress tendency, difficult relationships, reduced vitality. Eyebrows also reveal character and emotional tendency through their shape.

3. Eyes (眼) — The Illuminator/Informant (監察官)

Governs career years (ages 35–40). The 'windows of the soul' in Chinese face reading. Bright, clear iris, balanced size, alert and responsive: intelligence, moral clarity, career success. Turbid, bloodshot, drooping, or asymmetric eyes: deception tendencies, mental turbulence, career instability. The eyes carry the most diagnostic weight of all five officers.

4. Nose (鼻) — The Judgment Officer/Wealth Leader (審辨官)

Governs prime wealth years (ages 41–50). Straight bridge, fleshy rounded tip, closed nostrils when viewed frontally: wealth accumulation, authority, good judgment. Bent bridge, exposed nostrils, pointed or bony tip: wealth difficulty, poor financial decisions. The nose is the key indicator of wealth capacity.

5. Mouth (口) — The Communicator/Harmony Keeper (出納官)

Governs legacy years (ages 61–70). Well-defined lips with corners slightly upturned, full and balanced: eloquence, good eating fortune, positive legacy in old age. Downturned corners, thin lips, blurred lip border: ingratitude received, loss of status in later years.
