The Six Core Magical Skills (六大核心法術)
Liuren Fajiao practice rests on six core competencies that every practitioner must develop. These are not intellectual frameworks but embodied skills requiring years of dedicated practice to attain functional mastery.
1. Fu (符) — Sacred Written Symbols
The art of writing empowered talismans. Requires correct stroke sequences, the right mental state, appropriate timing, and mastery of the specific Fu patterns transmitted within the lineage. A Fu written without proper Qi transmission is merely ink on paper.
2. Zhou (咒) — Incantations
Formalized sacred speech encoding ritual commands. Zhou must be delivered with correct pronunciation, breath power, and mental intention simultaneously. Different Zhou patterns activate different spiritual forces. The most powerful Zhou are transmitted orally within the lineage — not written in texts.
3. Qiajue (掐訣) — Hand Seals / Finger Seals
Specific finger configurations that activate and direct Qi according to ritual function. Called 'Hand Seals' in the Liuren system — NOT 'Mudra' (a Hindu/Buddhist term). The Jue (訣) configurations are specific to Liuren Fajiao and differ from Buddhist or general Daoist Hand Seals. Typically performed with the right hand.
4. Tagang Budou (踏罡步斗) — Treading the Stars
Ritual movement sequences tracing cosmic diagrams on the ground — the Big Dipper (北斗), Nine Palaces (九宮), or other stellar formations. The practitioner physically embodies cosmic structures through precisely choreographed foot placements, activating the ritual space through their own body's movement through the stellar pattern.
5. Magical Instruments (法器)
Consecrated ritual implements: altar bell (法鈴), Azure Dragon Sword (青龍劍/法劍), incense (香), candles (蠟燭), Fa Water vessel (法水杯), command tablet (令牌), and incense ash bowl (香灰碗). Each implement has specific ritual functions and must be properly consecrated and maintained between ritual sessions.
6. Environmental Consecration (空間淨化)
Techniques for establishing, purifying, and maintaining ritual space: self-purification (靖), Earth dissolution (地解), Fa Water sprinkling, incense smoke purification, and boundary-setting incantations. The ritual space must be energetically clean before any major working — this step is not optional.
