The Fu Talisman System (符咒系統)
The Fu (符, talisman) is the written-Qi technology of Liuren Fajiao. Fu are not decorations or superstitions — they are Qi-encoded written commands that transmit specific energetic instructions between the human and spiritual realms. The act of writing a Fu is itself a transmission — every stroke carries the practitioner's intention, breath, and Qi.
Five Categories of Fu
Protective Fu (護身符): Worn on the body or affixed to the home/vehicle. Activated through incantation, Hand Seal, and Qi infusion. Timing-coordinated with auspicious hours. Healing Fu (治病符): Used in healing rituals — burned and ash mixed with Fa Water for ingestion, or applied topically. Freshly written for each patient. Exorcistic Fu (驅鬼符): Repels, binds, or banishes malevolent spirits. Often written in cinnabar (朱砂) ink for maximum potency. Blessing Fu (賜福符): Draws auspicious Qi into home or life. Coordinated with Ze Ri (擇日) calendar timing. Alignment Fu (調和符): For cosmic timing alignment — effective only during specific auspicious dates and hours.
The Activation Process
A Fu becomes operational only through proper activation: (1) The practitioner establishes ritual space through purification. (2) The Fu is written with correct brush strokes and the prescribed secret characters in the correct sequence. (3) The relevant incantation (Zhou 咒) is performed while writing or after completion. (4) The appropriate Hand Seal (掐訣) is applied to seal the Fu's power. (5) Qi is breathed into the Fu through specific breath techniques. Only after all five steps is the Fu considered 'alive' (活符).
Daoist vs. Liuren Fu
Liuren Fajiao Fu incorporate specific elements unique to the lineage: the Six Ding and Six Jia character sequences, the Fuying Hall (六壬伏英舘) seal marks, and the specific stroke patterns transmitted within the lineage. These are not generic Daoist Fu — they carry the specific authority and power of the Liuren Fajiao transmission.
