Fu Xing Shui Fa (輔星水法) — Assisting Star Water Method
Fu Xing Shui Fa (輔星水法), also known as the Nine Star Water Method, is a San Yuan water placement system that derives auspicious water directions from the sitting mountain using the Fan Gua (翻卦) hexagram rotation method. It assigns one of nine stars to each compass direction, rating the auspiciousness of water placement at each position.
Fan Gua Method (翻卦法)
Fan Gua (Hexagram Flipping) is the mechanical derivation at the heart of Fu Xing Shui Fa. Starting from the sitting mountain's hexagram, the practitioner rotates (flips) through the nine star positions:
- Identify the sitting mountain's hexagram from the 64 hexagram ring
- Apply the Fan Gua rotation sequence to derive the nine directional star assignments
- Each of the eight directions (plus center) receives one of the nine stars: 輔, 武, 破, 廉, 貪, 巨, 禄, 文, 弼
The Nine Stars and Their Water Significance
- 輔 (Fu — Assisting): Secondary incoming water — beneficial for health and relationships
- 武 (Wu — Martial): Primary incoming water — excellent for wealth and career
- 破 (Po — Breaking): Avoid all water placement — loss, conflict, legal troubles
- 廉 (Lian — Virtuous): Mixed — depends on period element interaction
- 貪 (Tan — Greedy): Wealth incoming — very good for financial growth
- 巨 (Ju — Huge Gate): Career and noble star incoming — authority and recognition
- 禄 (Lu — Prosperity): Prosperity incoming — steady material growth
- 文 (Wen — Literary): Academic and artistic incoming — talent and reputation
- 弼 (Bi — Assistant): Supporting incoming — good for family harmony
Relationship to Ba Zhai
The nine stars used in Fu Xing Shui Fa correspond to the Nine Star system used in Ba Zhai analysis (八宅游星). Practitioners often combine both systems for a complete site assessment.
