Xuan Kong Da Gua (玄空大卦) — The Grand Trigram System
Xuan Kong Da Gua is the advanced compass system of Feng Shui that maps the 64 hexagrams (六十四卦) to the compass at 5.625° per hexagram. This ultra-precision system is used for gravesite selection, building orientation, and timing auspicious construction activities. It operates at a resolution 32 times finer than the standard 24 Mountains system.
The 64 Hexagram Compass
Each hexagram occupies 5.625° of the compass, derived by dividing the circle (360°) by 64. The system assigns each hexagram a specific Qi quality based on the combination of its parent trigram (卦宮) and its internal transformations (父母卦, 子孫卦, etc.).
Parent Hexagram Theory (父母卦)
The central concept in Da Gua is the Parent Hexagram (父母卦) — the controlling hexagram that governs a sector's Qi. When the compass reading of a building's facing direction falls on a Parent Hexagram's exact degree, the alignment is considered pure and potent. Deviations from the Parent Hexagram degree fall on Descended (子孫卦) or opposite (夫妻卦) hexagrams with diminished or reversed effects.
The Seven Star Robbery Formation (七星打劫)
One of the most famous advanced techniques in Xuan Kong Da Gua. When specific star combinations appear in certain palace relationships, the dormant period 8 stars can be "robbed" and activated in the current period 9, effectively giving the property the energy of both periods simultaneously. This is the master-level technique that distinguishes Da Gua from standard Flying Stars practice.
He Tu Combinations
The He Tu (河圖) combinations identify star pairs that have special resonance and can be activated for extraordinary good fortune:
- 1-6 (Water-Metal): Career and windfall
- 2-7 (Earth-Fire): Property and wealth
- 3-8 (Wood-Earth): Growth and stability
- 4-9 (Wood-Fire): Academic achievement and recognition
