Five Ghosts Carry Treasure (五鬼運財法)
Wu Gui Yun Cai (五鬼運財法) — Five Ghosts Carry Treasure — is one of the most counter-intuitive and powerful advanced Feng Shui techniques. It deliberately channels wealth qi through the Wu Gui (五鬼 — Five Ghosts) sector — traditionally the most inauspicious Ba Zhai direction — by placing a precisely aligned water feature that converts destructive sha energy into a wealth conduit.
The Principle: Harnessing Destructive Energy
In Ba Zhai (Eight Mansions) theory, the Wu Gui direction represents extreme inauspiciousness: illness, accidents, and malevolent spirit interference. The counterintuitive insight of Wu Gui Yun Cai is that this very intensity — when properly contained and directed by water flow — creates an exceptionally powerful wealth channel. The "Five Ghosts" become porters (運財) carrying wealth into the property.
Derivation by House Trigram
The Wu Gui direction is derived from the house's sitting direction trigram using Ba Zhai analysis:
- 坎 (Kan/N sitting): Wu Gui in 離 (South)
- 坤 (Kun/SW sitting): Wu Gui in 震 (East)
- 震 (Zhen/E sitting): Wu Gui in 坤 (Southwest)
- 巽 (Xun/SE sitting): Wu Gui in 乾 (Northwest)
- 乾 (Qian/NW sitting): Wu Gui in 巽 (Southeast)
- 兌 (Dui/W sitting): Wu Gui in 離 (South)

Water Placement Formula
Position a water feature (fountain, pool, or flowing water element) at the Wu Gui direction of the house trigram. The water must flow inward toward the building center — never outward, which would carry wealth away. The channel angle must precisely match the Wu Gui direction (within ±3° for professional practice).
Cautions
- Do NOT combine Wu Gui Yun Cai with other conflicting water placements in the same sector
- The water must be kept clean and in constant gentle movement — stagnant water reverses the effect
- Verify against the Flying Stars chart of the property — conflicting stars can neutralise or amplify the effect
- This technique is NOT recommended for properties with active illness-star (2 or 5) in the Wu Gui sector
