Ogham (歐甘樹文)
Ogham is an ancient Celtic alphabet of 25 characters, each associated with a sacred tree. Used for inscriptions from the 4th–7th century CE, it was later adopted for divination by drawing on the spiritual properties of each tree.
Five Aicme Groups
- Aicme Beithe (白樺組): Birch, Rowan, Alder, Willow, Ash — new beginnings and foundations
- Aicme hÚatha (山楂組): Hawthorn, Oak, Holly, Hazel, Apple — strength and trials
- Aicme Muine (藤組): Vine, Ivy, Reed, Blackthorn, Elder — communication and transformation
- Aicme Ailme (冷杉組): Fir, Gorse, Heather, Aspen, Yew — elements and transcendence
- Forfeda (補充組): Five supplementary characters — integration and mastery
Cross-Cultural Parallels
Like the Wu Xing (五行) elements, each Ogham tree carries elemental associations. The seasonal cycle of tree growth mirrors the GanZhi calendar's cyclical nature.
