Meaning 意義

O Vajrasattva, honour your samaya! Remain near me as Vajrasattva. Grant me firm stability. Grant me complete satisfaction. Grant me complete nourishment. Grant me all love. Grant me all siddhis. In all actions, make my mind virtuous. Hum! Ha ha ha ha ho! Blessed One — Vajra of all Tathagatas — do not abandon me! Be the Vajra-being! Great samaya being! Ah!

Ritual Use & Practice 修持法門

Core purification practice in Ngondro (foundational practices); traditionally accumulated 100,000 recitations. Recited before sleep to purify the day's transgressions. Used to purify broken samaya (vows). Visualise Vajrasattva white and luminous above the crown, nectar flowing down purifying all negativities.

Background & Significance 背景與意義

The Vajrasattva 100-Syllable Mantra (Tib: Dorje Sempa Yig Gya) is the supreme purification mantra in Tibetan Buddhism. Vajrasattva (Diamond Being) is the embodiment of the purified form of all the Buddhas — his white, luminous form represents the original purity of the mind before obscurations. The mantra is a direct appeal to Vajrasattva to uphold one's samaya (tantric commitments and vows) and purify all transgressions. According to tantric texts, reciting the mantra 21 times each night before sleeping prevents the day's negativities from increasing; accumulating 100,000 recitations with visualisation and genuine regret can purify even the heaviest karmas. This is one of the four practices universally required in all Tibetan Ngondro (foundational practice) systems.
