Zi Wei Dou Shu (紫微斗數) — The Celestial Blueprint
In the broader context of the Chinese Metaphysical Five Arts (五術), Zi Wei Dou Shu represents the Life (命 — Ming) category. It is a comprehensive system of destiny analysis that uses the individual's lunar birth time to map the "Celestial Blueprint" of their life.
Unlike divination methods which focus on specific questions, Zi Wei Dou Shu reveals the inherent structure of an individual's path, highlighting periods of opportunity and challenge across twelve distinct dimensions of life. It is often referred to as "Chinese Astrology" but operates on a unique symbolic logic based on the North Star (Zi Wei 紫微).
Its origins are attributed to the Song Dynasty Daoist scholar Chen Tuan (陳摶), evolving from ancient star-based astrological methods and developing complexity through figures like Liu Bowen during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
