Fixed Stars (恆星)
While Western astrology primarily works with the moving planets against the backdrop of the zodiac, the fixed stars — the actual stars of the constellations — have been used since the earliest Babylonian records as additional sensitive points of great power. Unlike planets (which move against the star background), fixed stars barely shift position from human perspective over centuries, hence 'fixed.' Their conjunction with natal planets or chart angles is considered highly significant.
Nature of Fixed Star Influence
Fixed stars are believed to operate through conjunction alone (within a tight orb of 1–2°) — they do not form traditional aspects. When a natal planet or angle is conjunct a fixed star, the star's mythology and traditional signification colour that point's expression powerfully, sometimes even overriding the planet's usual meaning.
The Most Important Fixed Stars

| Pleiades | 昴星團 | Taurus | Moon/Mars | Grief, vision loss, but also artistic gifts and mystical sight |
| Aldebaran | 畢宿五 | Taurus | Mars | Military honour, success through courage (Royal Star of the East) |
| Regulus | 軒轅十四 | Leo | Mars/Jupiter | Kingship, power, success — but falls from pride (Royal Star of the North) |
| Spica | 角宿一 | Virgo | Venus/Mercury | Brilliance, gifts, artistic genius, divine favour |
| Antares | 心宿二 | Scorpius | Mars/Jupiter | Warrior courage, obsession, destructive intensity (Royal Star of the West) |
| Fomalhaut | 北落師門 | Piscis Austrinus | Venus/Mercury | Idealism, mystical gifts, spiritual genius (Royal Star of the South) |
| Sirius | 天狼星 | Canis Major | Jupiter/Mars | Fame, ambition, immortality; the brightest star in the sky |
| Vega | 織女星 | Lyra | Venus/Mercury | Artistic gifts, charisma, magical ability |
| Betelgeuse | 參宿四 | Orion | Mercury/Mars | Honour, success through martial ability; also risk of violent death |
The Four Royal Stars
Four stars are collectively called the Royal Stars of Persia (波斯皇家星), marking the four compass directions of the ancient Persian sky: Aldebaran (East), Regulus (North), Antares (West), Fomalhaut (South). A natal planet or angle conjunct one of these four promises exceptional potential — but each carries a specific 'fall condition': Regulus falls from arrogance; Aldebaran from dishonour; Antares from obsession; Fomalhaut from corruption of ideals.
Chinese Parallel — 28 Lunar Mansions (二十八宿)
The Chinese tradition uses the 28 Lunar Mansions (二十八宿) — a division of the sky into 28 sectors, each named for a prominent star or star group (many of which overlap with the fixed stars above). The Luopan compass ring for Lunar Mansions is used in date selection and feng shui analysis. Antares corresponds to 心宿 (Heart Mansion); Aldebaran to 畢宿 (Net Mansion) — demonstrating the shared Babylonian astronomical heritage of both East and West.
