卦辭
節:亨。苦節不可貞。
Limitation. Success. Galling limitation must not be persevered in.

象曰:澤上有水,節;君子以制數度,議德行。
Water over lake: the image of Limitation. Thus the superior man creates number and measure, and examines the nature of virtue and correct conduct.
Interpretation
詮釋
節卦象徵節制與限度。水在澤上,有所節制。應制定法度,節儉有度,但過苦則不可。
Restraint and moderation. Water above lake, having limits. Should establish standards, frugal with moderation, but excessive hardship impermissible.

Nine at the beginning
初九
不出戶庭,無咎。
Not going out of the door and the courtyard is without blame.
不出門戶庭院,無咎。知時守節,不輕舉妄動。
Not leaving door and courtyard, no blame. Knowing when to restrain, not acting rashly.
Nine in the second place
九二
不出門庭,凶。
Not going out of the gate and courtyard brings misfortune.
不出門庭,凶。該行動時不動,失去時機則凶。
Not leaving gate and courtyard, misfortune. Not moving when should act, missing opportunity brings misfortune.
Six in the third place
六三
不節若,則嗟若,無咎。
He who knows no limitation will have cause to lament. No blame.
不知節制,則嘆息悲傷,無咎。不節制必後悔,知錯能改無咎。
Not knowing restraint, then laments and grieves, no blame. Lack of restraint brings regret, acknowledging mistake and correcting brings no blame.

六四
安節,亨。
Contented limitation. Success.
安於節制,亨通。得其位而能節,自然亨通。
Content with restraint, success. In proper position able to restrain, naturally successful.
Nine in the fifth place
九五
甘節,吉;往有尚。
Sweet limitation brings good fortune. Going brings esteem.
甘心節制,吉;前往有嘉獎。居尊位而節制得當,上下皆服。
Willingly restraining, fortune; going brings reward. In high position restraining appropriately, all comply above and below.
Six at the top
上六
苦節,貞凶,悔亡。
Galling limitation. Perseverance brings misfortune. Remorse disappears.
苦澀節制,守正凶,悔恨消失。過度節儉苦行,堅持則凶,但知悔改無咎。
Bitter restraint, correctness brings misfortune, regret vanishes. Excessive frugality and austerity, persisting brings misfortune, but knowing to change brings no blame.
