Judgment

卦辭

渙:亨。王假有廟,利涉大川,利貞。

Dispersion. Success. The king approaches his temple. It furthers one to cross the great water. Perseverance furthers.

象傳

象曰:風行水上,渙;先王以享於帝立廟。

The wind drives over the water: the image of Dispersion. Thus the kings of old sacrificed to the Lord and built temples.


Interpretation

詮釋

渙卦象徵離散與消解。風行水上,渙散四方。應團結人心,立廟祭祀,化解離散。

Dispersion and dissolution. Wind over water, scattering in all directions. Should unite people's hearts, establish temples for worship, resolve dispersion.

Six at the beginning

初六

用拯馬壯,吉。

He brings help with the strength of a horse. Good fortune.

用強壯的馬來救助,吉。初散之時,及時救援則吉。

Using strong horse for rescue, fortune. At beginning of dispersion, timely rescue brings fortune.

Nine in the second place

九二

渙奔其机,悔亡。

At the dissolution he hurries to that which supports him. Remorse disappears.

離散時奔向依靠之處,悔恨消失。得中正之位,找到支持得安穩。

During dispersion running to support, regret vanishes. Attaining balanced position, finding support brings stability.

Six in the third place

六三

渙其躬,無悔。

He dissolves his self. No remorse.

離散自身,無悔。忘我無私,為大局犧牲小我,無悔。

Dispersing self, no regret. Selfless and impartial, sacrificing small self for greater good, no regret.

Six in the fourth place

六四

渙其群,元吉。渙有丘,匪夷所思。

He dissolves his bond with his group. Supreme good fortune. Dispersion leads in turn to accumulation. This is something that ordinary men do not think of.

離散其黨群,大吉。離散中有聚集,非常人所能想到。超越小圈子,成就大事業。

Dispersing one's clique, great fortune. Within dispersion there is gathering, not what ordinary people think of. Transcending small circles, achieving great enterprise.

Nine in the fifth place

九五

渙汗其大號,渙王居,無咎。

His loud cries are as dissolving as sweat. Dissolution! A king abides without blame.

發出大號令如汗流出,離散王之居所,無咎。居尊位發布號令,化解危機無咎。

Issuing great proclamation like sweat flowing, dispersing king's dwelling, no blame. In high position issuing commands, resolving crisis without blame.

Nine at the top

上九

渙其血,去逖出,無咎。

He dissolves his blood. Departing, keeping at a distance, going out, is without blame.

離散其血,遠離危險而出,無咎。消除傷害,遠離禍患,全身而退。

Dispersing blood, leaving danger behind, no blame. Eliminating harm, keeping distance from disaster, withdrawing intact.
