卦辭

升:元亨,用見大人,勿恤,南征吉。

Pushing Upward has supreme success. One must see the great man. Fear not. Departure toward the south brings good fortune.

象傳

象曰:地中生木,升;君子以順德,積小以高大。

Within the earth, wood grows: the image of Pushing Upward. Thus the superior man of devoted character heaps up small things in order to achieve something high and great.


Interpretation

詮釋

升卦象徵上升與成長。木生於地中,順勢上升。應積小成高,循序漸進。

Ascending and growing. Wood grows from within earth, rising naturally. Should accumulate small to achieve great, progress step by step.

Six at the beginning

初六

允升,大吉。

Pushing upward that meets with confidence brings great good fortune.

被允許上升,大吉。順勢而升,得到信任,大獲吉祥。

Allowed to ascend, great fortune. Rising with the flow, gaining trust, greatly fortunate.

Nine in the second place

九二

孚乃利用禴,無咎。

If one is sincere, it furthers one to bring even a small offering. No blame.

有誠信則利於用薄禮,無咎。以誠待人,不在禮厚。

With sincerity benefits simple offerings, no blame. Treating people sincerely, not in lavish gifts.

Nine in the third place

九三

升虛邑。

One pushes upward into an empty city.

升入空城。無阻礙地上升,一路順暢。

Ascending into empty city. Rising without obstacles, smooth all the way.

Six in the fourth place

六四

王用亨於岐山,吉無咎。

The king offers him Mount Chi. Good fortune. No blame.

王用於岐山祭祀,吉無咎。得君王賞識,升至高位。

King sacrifices at Mount Qi, fortune no blame. Gaining ruler's appreciation, ascending to high position.

Six in the fifth place

六五

貞吉,升階。

Perseverance brings good fortune. One pushes upward by steps.

守正吉,拾級而上。循序漸進,步步高升。

Correctness brings fortune, ascending steps. Progressing gradually, rising step by step.

Six at the top

上六

冥升,利於不息之貞。

Pushing upward in darkness. It furthers one to be unremittingly persevering.

暗中上升,利於不停息的堅守。盲目上升需謹慎,但堅持不懈終有成。

Ascending in darkness, benefits unceasing perseverance. Blind ascent needs caution, but persistent effort eventually succeeds.
