Judgment

卦辭

復:亨。出入無疾,朋來無咎。反復其道,七日來復,利有攸往。

Return. Success. Going out and coming in without error. Friends come without blame. To and fro goes the way. On the seventh day comes return. It furthers one to have somewhere to go.

象傳

象曰:雷在地中,復;先王以至日閉關,商旅不行,后不省方。

Thunder within the earth: the image of the Turning Point. Thus the kings of old closed the passes at the time of solstice. Merchants and strangers did not go about, and the ruler did not travel through the provinces.


Interpretation

詮釋

復卦象徵回歸與復甦。雷在地中,陽氣萌動。暗示著轉機來臨,萬物更新,應順應自然規律養精蓄銳。

Return and revival. Thunder within earth, yang energy stirring. Suggests turning point arrives, all things renew, should follow natural rhythms and gather strength.

Nine at the beginning

初九

不遠復,無祇悔,元吉。

Return from a short distance. No need for remorse. Great good fortune.

不走遠就回頭,無需悔恨,大吉。及早覺悟改正,吉祥之始。

Turning back before going far, no need for regret, great fortune. Early awakening and correction, beginning of auspiciousness.

Six in the second place

六二

休復,吉。

Quiet return. Good fortune.

安靜地回歸,吉。親近賢者而回歸正道,美好的復歸。

Peaceful return brings fortune. Approaching the wise and returning to the right path, a beautiful return.

Six in the third place

六三

頻復,厲,無咎。

Repeated return. Danger. No blame.

屢次反復,危險,但無咎。多次犯錯但能改正,雖危但終無大礙。

Repeated backsliding, dangerous but no blame. Making mistakes multiple times but correcting them, though perilous ultimately no great harm.

Six in the fourth place

六四

中行獨復。

Walking in the midst of others, one returns alone.

行於眾中獨自回歸。不隨波逐流,堅持正道而返。

Walking among others, returning alone. Not following the crowd, persisting on the right path and returning.

Six in the fifth place

六五

敦復,無悔。

Magnanimous return. No remorse.

誠篤地回歸,無悔。真誠反省自我,回歸正道。

Sincere return, no regret. Genuinely reflecting on oneself, returning to the right path.

Six at the top

上六

迷復,凶,有災眚。用行師,終有大敗,以其國君,凶;至于十年,不克征。

Missing the return. Misfortune. Calamities from within and without. If one leads the army in such a way, one will suffer defeat and disaster. The leader suffers misfortune. For ten years no victory.

迷失而不知回歸,凶,有災禍。用於軍事必大敗,連累國君,凶。十年不能征戰。

Lost and unable to return, misfortune, calamities arise. Using in warfare brings great defeat, harming the ruler. Cannot wage war for ten years.
