About this Text
The Art of War (孫子兵法) is the oldest and most universally studied military strategy text in history. Its thirteen chapters address every dimension of strategic thinking: assessment, resource management, terrain, deception, intelligence, and the nature of victory. Within the Chinese Five Arts tradition, Sun Tzu's analytical framework — the Five Factors (Way, Heaven, Earth, Leader, Law) and their interaction — directly parallels the Five Arts assessment of Heaven timing, Earth form, and Human alignment in BaZi, Feng Shui, and ritual planning.

The Five Factors framework maps directly onto Five Arts practice: "Heaven" (天時) corresponds to BaZi timing and QMDJ tactical timing; "Earth" (地利) to Feng Shui site assessment; "Way" (道) to the Daoist cosmological foundation of all Five Arts; "Leader" (將) to the practitioner's Shen (Spirit/Intent) in ritual; "Law" (法) to systematic Fa methodology. Sun Tzu's insistence on knowing conditions before acting (知彼知己,百戰不殆) is the epistemological foundation of all classical Chinese arts — calculate first, act second.
