Yijing — Book of Changes (64 Hexagrams)

The Yijing (易經), the Book of Changes, is one of the oldest and most foundational texts in Chinese civilisation. Its 64 hexagrams (六十四卦) each consist of six lines — either Yin (broken) or Yang (unbroken) — representing all possible states of transformation in the universe.

This oracle uses the three-coin method (三錢法): three virtual coins are cast six times to determine each line. Lines with values 6 (Old Yin) or 9 (Old Yang) are changing lines (動爻) that transform into their opposite, producing a secondary hexagram (之卦) indicating future direction.

Source: Yijing (易經) — attributed to King Wen of Zhou (周文王), commentary tradition attributed to Confucius (孔子).
