Dudjom Rinpoche
敦珠仁波切
Jigdral Yeshe Dorje; Supreme Head of the Nyingma School
Biography & Significance
Dudjom Rinpoche Jigdral Yeshe Dorje was the supreme head of the Nyingma school and one of the most prolific and revered Tibetan Buddhist masters of the 20th century. Recognised as the reincarnation of Dudjom Lingpa, he was also identified as an emanation of Khye'u Chung Lotsawa, one of Padmasambhava's 25 principal disciples. A prolific author and Tertön (revealer of hidden treasure teachings), he composed the definitive modern history of the Nyingma school — the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism: Its History and Fundamentals — as well as numerous practice texts and commentaries. Following the Chinese occupation of Tibet, he settled in Kalimpong and later established Buddhist centres in France and the USA. His Dudjom Tersar (New Treasure of Dudjom) cycle of practices has become one of the most widely practiced Nyingma treasure transmissions.
