Qi Men Dun Jia for Destiny Analysis (奇門命理)
Beyond its classical use as a divination tool for specific questions, Qi Men Dun Jia can be applied to personal destiny analysis using the birth time chart. This method assigns the birth time's QMDJ configuration as a natal chart, revealing the person's life trajectory through the lens of the Time-Space system.
Birth Chart Method
A natal Qi Men chart is constructed from the person's birth date and time using the same plate construction method as for a divination question. However, instead of asking about a specific matter, the chart is read as a whole-life blueprint:
- The Life Palace (命宮) in QMDJ is identified from the birth month's ruling palace
- The Body Palace (身宮) is derived from the birth year's ruling palace
- Gate-Star-Deity combinations in these palaces describe fundamental life characteristics
Ten-Year Luck Periods in QMDJ
Each ten-year cycle corresponds to successive QMDJ charts derived from the natal configuration. The practitioner reads each decade as a distinct strategic phase with different auspicious and inauspicious directions, activities, and relationships.
Applications
- Career strategy: Optimal directions for job applications, business launches, relocation
- Relationship timing: Auspicious periods for marriage, partnerships, contracts
- Health cycles: Identifying vulnerable periods from the Star-Element correspondence
- Study periods: When Learning Star (天輔 Tian Fu) is active and favorable
