Judgment

卦辭

巽:小亨,利有攸往,利見大人。

The Gentle. Success through what is small. It furthers one to have somewhere to go. It furthers one to see the great man.

象傳

象曰:隨風,巽;君子以申命行事。

Winds following one upon the other: the image of the Gently Penetrating. Thus the superior man spreads his commands abroad and carries out his undertakings.


Interpretation

詮釋

巽卦象徵謙遜與順從。重風相隨,無孔不入。應柔順謙卑,反復叮嚀,漸進而行。

Gentleness and compliance. Winds following, penetrating everywhere. Should be yielding and humble, repeating instructions, proceeding gradually.

Six at the beginning

初六

進退,利武人之貞。

In advancing and in retreating, the perseverance of a warrior furthers.

進退不定,利於武人的堅守。當斷則斷,決心如軍人般堅定。

Advancing and retreating uncertain, benefits warrior's perseverance. Decide when necessary, determination firm as soldier.

Nine in the second place

九二

巽在床下,用史巫紛若,吉無咎。

Penetration under the bed. Priests and magicians are used in great number. Good fortune. No blame.

謙卑到床下,用史官巫師紛紛祈禱,吉無咎。過分謙卑,求神問卜,但誠心則無咎。

Humble under bed, using historians and shamans to pray abundantly, fortune no blame. Excessive humility, seeking divination, but sincerity brings no blame.

Nine in the third place

九三

頻巽,吝。

Repeated penetration. Humiliation.

頻繁謙卑,羞恥。過度順從失去立場,反招輕視。

Frequent humility, shame. Excessive compliance loses position, instead invites contempt.

Six in the fourth place

六四

悔亡,田獲三品。

Remorse vanishes. During the hunt three kinds of game are caught.

悔恨消失,田獵獲得三種獵物。得位而順從,所求皆得。

Regret vanishes, hunting catches three types of game. In position yet compliant, all requests fulfilled.

Nine in the fifth place

九五

貞吉悔亡,無不利。無初有終,先庚三日,後庚三日,吉。

Perseverance brings good fortune. Remorse vanishes. Nothing that does not further. No beginning, but an end. Before the change, three days. After the change, three days. Good fortune.

守正吉悔恨消失,無不利。無好開端但有好結局,變革前三日後三日思慮,吉。居尊位而柔順,漸進改革必成。

Correctness brings fortune regret vanishes, nothing fails to further. No good start but good end, three days before and after change to consider, fortune. In high position yet yielding, gradual reform succeeds.

Nine at the top

上九

巽在床下,喪其資斧,貞凶。

Penetration under the bed. He loses his property and his ax. Perseverance brings misfortune.

謙卑到床下,失去資財和斧頭,守正凶。過度順從失去原則和手段,必遭禍患。

Humble under bed, losing valuables and ax, correctness brings misfortune. Excessive compliance losing principles and means, inevitably brings disaster.
