Judgment

卦辭

泰:小往大來,吉亨。

Peace. The small departs, the great approaches. Good fortune. Success.

象傳

象曰:天地交,泰;后以財成天地之道,輔相天地之宜,以左右民。

Heaven and earth unite: the image of Peace. Thus the ruler divides and completes the course of heaven and earth.


Interpretation

詮釋

泰卦象徵平安與通達。地在上,天在下,氣息交感。暗示著萬物和諧,事業順利,是繁榮的時期。

Peace and prosperity. Heaven and earth in harmony. Indicates overall success and a period of flourishing growth.

Nine at the beginning

初九

拔茅茹,以其彙,征吉。

When ribbon grass is pulled up, the sod comes with it. Advance brings good fortune.

拔茅草連根而起,同類相隨。前進則吉,賢者並進。

Pulling up grass brings its roots along, like-minded people follow together. Advancing brings fortune, the worthy rise together.

Nine in the second place

九二

包荒,用馮河,不遐遺,朋亡,得尚于中行。

Bearing with the uncultured in gentleness, fording the river with resolution, not neglecting what is distant. Thus one loses companions but walks in the middle.

包容荒蕪,冒險渡河,不忘遠方,不結黨營私,持守中道。

Tolerating the uncultivated, daring to cross rivers, remembering the distant, not forming cliques, maintaining the middle way.

Nine in the third place

九三

無平不陂,無往不復。艱貞無咎,勿恤其孚,于食有福。

No plain not followed by a slope. No going not followed by a return. He who remains persevering in danger is without blame.

平地必有坡,前進必返回。艱難中守正無咎,保持誠信有福。

Flat ground must have slopes, going forward must have returns. Remaining correct in hardship brings no blame, maintaining sincerity brings blessing.

Six in the fourth place

六四

翩翩,不富以其鄰,不戒以孚。

He flutters down, not boasting of his wealth, together with his neighbor, guileless and sincere.

翩然而下,不以富自誇,與鄰居共享,誠信無需戒備。

Descending gracefully, not boasting of wealth, sharing with neighbors, sincerity needs no precaution.

Six in the fifth place

六五

帝乙歸妹,以祉元吉。

The sovereign I gives his daughter in marriage. This brings blessing and supreme good fortune.

帝乙嫁妹,謙下而得福,大吉。尊者能屈則福至。

Emperor Yi marries off his daughter, being humble brings blessing and great fortune. When the noble can be humble, blessings arrive.

Six at the top

上六

城復于隍,勿用師,自邑告命,貞吝。

The wall falls back into the moat. Now is no time to use the army. Make your commands known within your own town.

城牆崩塌回到護城河,不宜用兵。和平盛極而衰,守正但困窘。

The wall collapses back into the moat, do not use military force. Peace has peaked and declined, maintaining correctness brings difficulty.
