⚠️ Crucial Distinction: Magic vs. Divination
Liuren Fajiao (Ritual Magic) is distinct from Da Liu Ren (大六壬) Divination. We do not use complex mathematical astrolabes to predict the future. We use direct Spirit Communication with the Altar to diagnose the present reality of a case.
1. The Three Diagnostic Pillars
In the Liuren lineage, "Calculation" means determining the spiritual root of a problem (e.g., is it a ghost, a curse, or bad luck?). The three primary methods are:
- Moon Blocks (Sheng Bei - 勝杯): The binary communication tool for Yes/No confirmation from the Master.
- Incense Reading (Kan Xiang - 看香): Interpreting the burning pattern of the three incense sticks to read the "Qi" of the situation.
- Spirit Mediumship (Tong Ling - 通靈): Direct sensing or "hearing" of the Altar's guidance (advanced level).
2. The Moon Blocks (Sheng Bei)
The simplest and most direct method for a disciple to ask the Altar is using the Moon Blocks (Jiao Bei). This is the "Vagabond's Telegram" to the celestial bureaucracy.
| Result | Position | Lineage Interpretation |
|---|
| Sheng Bei (Holy Cup) | One Up, One Down | YES / Approval. The Master agrees or the spirit is present. |
| Xiao Bei (Laughing Cup) | Two Flat Sides Up | NO / Invalid Question. The answer is obvious or the question is unclear. |
| Yin Bei (Clouded Cup) | Two Rounded Sides Up | NO / Disapproval. The spirits are angry or the request is denied. |
3. Incense Reading (看香法)
Incense is the "breath" of the Altar. By observing the ash and smoke, a practitioner can diagnose the severity of a case.
- Safety Incense (Ping An Xiang): Burns evenly. The situation is stable.
- Disaster Incense (Zai Nan Xiang): The middle stick burns faster or breaks. Indicates looming danger.
- Ghost Incense (Gui Xiang): The right stick burns faster. Indicates presence of yin spirits.
Diagnostic Warning:
If the incense refuses to light or goes out three times, STOP immediately. The Altar is rejecting the case or the opposing forces are too strong for your current level.
