What is Kai Tan (开坛)?

Kai Tan means "Opening the Altar" - the preparatory ritual performed before any significant Liuren work. It turns on the spiritual workspace, establishing a connection with the Thirteen Guardians.

The Five Steps of Formal Kai Tan

  1. Purification (Jing Tan): Cleansing the space and mind.
  2. Lighting (Dian Deng): Illuminating the center, left, and right candles.
  3. Directional Invocation: Acknowledging the Four Cardinal Directions.
  4. Master Petition: Formally inviting Liuren Immortal Master (Li Chunfeng).
  5. Guardian Invitation: Requesting assistance from specific Thirteen Guardians.

Altar Offerings (供品)

  • Incense: Smoke carries prayers upward.
  • Tea: Three cups representing hospitality and purity.
  • Fruit: Three types representing abundance.
  • Rice Wine: Offering of essence.
