What is Feng Shen (封身)?

Feng Shen (封身) literally means "Body Sealing" - a foundational protective ritual where spiritual characters (花字) are energetically imprinted onto the body.

This is Step 2 of the four-step Guojiao initiation ceremony. It establishes a protective shield that hardens the body (Iron Plate protection) and guards against spiritual attack.

封身 (Feng Shen) 字面意思為「身體封印」——這是六壬中的基本保護儀式，將靈性字符（花字）印記在修行者的身體上。

這是過教儀式四個步驟中的 第二步 。它建立一個保護屏障，強化身體（鐵板保護）並抵禦靈性攻擊。

The Iron Plate Metaphor

Feng Shen is connected to the "Iron Plate" (鐵板) metaphor: the body becomes as resistant to harm as an unshakeable iron plate. It invokes the Copper Skin Master (銅皮郎君) and Iron Bone Master (鐵骨郎君) from the Thirteen Guardians.

This is understood as spiritual armor through lineage authorization, not a claim of invulnerability outside ritual context.

Ritual Structure (High-Level)

  • Altar alignment: establish the ritual axis and guardian witness
  • Four-directional sealing: front, back, left, right protection fields
  • Hand seals + incantation: synchronize intention with lineage authority
  • Closure: confirm the seal and dismiss the ritual field
