Liuren Magic Sanctuary
The people are hungry because their rulers take too much in taxes.
The people are difficult to govern because their rulers meddle too much.
The people treat death lightly because their rulers cling too "thickly" to life.
Therefore, the one who does not act for the sake of his own life
Is wiser than the one who values his life too highly.
In Liuren Fajiao, "The People" (民) can also refer to the practitioner's Internal Spirits and Qi. If the practitioner "taxes" their spirit too much—by performing too many rituals for greed, ego, or fame—they will experience Spiritual Hunger (飢) and exhaustion.
Magical work becomes "Difficult to govern" (難治) when the master "meddles too much" (有為) with personal will. If you try to force the spirits to obey your every whim, they will become restless and unpredictable. True authority comes from "Non-interference".
One who "does not act for the sake of his own life" (無以生為) is the superior master. By letting go of the desperate "thick" clinging to the self, the practitioner's De remains pure and their connection to the Immortal Master remains unobstructed. This is the only way to avoid the catastrophe of spiritual burnout.
