Great perfection seems flawed, yet its utility is never exhausted.
Great fullness seems empty, yet its utility is limitless.
Great straightness seems curved.
Great skill seems clumsy.
Great eloquence seems like a stutter.
Movement overcomes cold; stillness overcomes heat.
Clarity and Stillness are the standard for the world.
In Liuren Fajiao, "Great skill seems clumsy" (大巧若拙) is a description of the highest level of Wicha. A master's movements may seem simple, slow, or even "clumsy" to an untrained eye, but the spiritual efficacy is "limitless." We do not seek flashy, complex rituals for their own sake.
"Great perfection seems flawed" (大成若缺) reminds us that true magical power does not need to look "perfect" in a worldly sense. The "flaw" is the space through which the Dao can enter. If a ritual is too rigid or aesthetically perfect, it may lack the "Empty Fullness" (大盈若沖) required for spiritual manifestation.
"Clarity and Stillness" (清靜) are the ultimate tools. Just as stillness "overcomes heat," the practitioner's internal stillness can dissolve the "heat" of anger, spiritual attack, or chaotic energy. This state is the "standard" (正) for all our work.
