Heaven and Earth are not "humane";
They treat the ten thousand things as straw dogs.
The Sage is not "humane";
He treats the people as straw dogs.
The space between Heaven and Earth is like a bellows;
It is empty yet inexhaustible;
The more it moves, the more it yields.
Many words lead to exhaustion;
Better to hold to the center.
In Liuren Fajiao, the concept of being "not humane" (不仁) refers to the impartiality of the divine forces. The Dao and the Spirits do not play favorites based on human sentiment. They respond to the correct Fa (Method) and De (Virtue). Like the "straw dogs" used in ancient rituals, forms are temporary; the underlying power is eternal.
The "Bellows" (橐籥) is a perfect metaphor for the Dantian and the breath. By maintaining an "empty" state, the practitioner becomes a conduit for infinite energy. The more one "moves" (performs ritual with correct intent), the more power "yields" from the void.
"Holding to the Center" (守中) is a critical technical instruction. Whether in meditation or in the heat of a complex ritual, the practitioner must maintain their internal equilibrium. Excessive "words" (intellectualizing or over-explaining) dissipates power. Silence and centeredness are the hallmarks of a master.
