2. The Si Hua Table (十干四化表)
The following table shows which stars transform based on the 10 Heavenly Stems. This is the "Engine" of Zi Wei Dou Shu.
| Stem (天干) | Hua Lu (祿) | Hua Quan (權) | Hua Ke (科) | Hua Ji (忌) |
|---|
| Jia (甲) | Lian Zhen | Po Jun | Wu Qu | Tai Yang |
| Yi (乙) | Tian Ji | Tian Liang | Zi Wei | Tai Yin |
| Bing (丙) | Tian Tong | Tian Ji | Wen Chang | Lian Zhen |
| Ding (丁) | Tai Yin | Tian Tong | Tian Ji | Ju Men |
| Wu (戊) | Tan Lang | Tai Yin | You Bi | Tian Ji |
| Ji (己) | Wu Qu | Tan Lang | Tian Liang | Wen Qu |
| Geng (庚) | Tai Yang | Wu Qu | Tai Yin | Tian Tong |
| Xin (辛) | Ju Men | Tai Yang | Wen Qu | Wen Chang |
| Ren (壬) | Tian Liang | Zi Wei | Zuo Fu | Wu Qu |
| Gui (癸) | Po Jun | Ju Men | Tai Yin | Tan Lang |
* Note: Some schools have minor variations for the Ren (壬) stem's Ke/Ji stars.
3. Flying Star Methodology (飛星派)
The "Flying Star" school (Fei Xing Pai) takes Si Hua to a deeper level by using the stems of each of the 12 palaces to trigger "Flying" transformations.
Flying Palace (飛宮 - Fei Gong)
When the stem of Palace A triggers a transformation of a star in Palace B. This shows the cause and effect between different life domains.
Example: Life Palace stem sends Hua Lu to Wealth Palace = "I use my energy to create wealth."
Self-Transformation (自化 - Zi Hua)
When the stem of a palace triggers a transformation of a star inside that same palace. This indicates an unstable or "leaking" energy in that domain.
Self-Hua-Ji can represent a loss of luck or a sudden change of mind in that area.
⚡ San He vs. Flying Star Schools
San He School (三合派): Focuses on the "Static" stars and formations. Uses Si Hua mainly from the birth year (Natal) and major luck cycles (Decade/Annual).
Flying Star School (飛星派): Focuses on the "Dynamic" flow. Uses the stems of every palace to track 144+ transformations, emphasizing event prediction and timing.
The following five cases demonstrate advanced Si Hua flying star techniques — Self-Hua leaks, chain reaction breakthroughs, Ji flight paths, and the mutual Ji entanglement pattern. Each case is drawn from Qin Tian Si Hua, Fei Xing Pai, and general Flying Star practitioner archives.
Self-Hua Wealth Leak — 財帛宮自化忌 (Wealth Palace Self-Generating Obstruction) (紫微斗數)
Chart: Male, born ~1982.
Key Formation: 天機自化忌 (Tiān Jī Zì Huà Jì) — the Wealth Palace's own Heavenly Stem transforms its occupant star (Tian Ji) into 化忌, creating a chronic self-generated energy leak.
Self-Hua Mechanism: 自化 (Zì Huà / Self-Transformation) occurs when a palace's own Heavenly Stem generates a transformation of one of its occupant stars. Unlike natal 四化 (generated by the Year Stem for the whole chart), 自化 is localized — it creates an energy "leak" in that specific palace. 天機自化忌 in 財帛宮 means: "The Wealth Palace generates its own obstruction." Money arrives (other natal factors support income) but the palace itself bleeds wealth away — called "自化忌為漏" (Zì Huà Jì Wéi Lòu / "Self-Hua Ji is a Leak") in the Qin Tian Si Hua school.
The subject earned a competitive salary and received occasional windfalls — but consistently accumulated nothing. By age 45, zero savings despite high income. Every savings attempt was undone by unexpected expenses, bad contracts, or document-related scams (Wen Chang Ji variant). During his age 35–44 Da Xian, the active Wealth Palace function shifted to a natal palace without self-hua — he finally accumulated savings for the first time, confirming the diagnosis.
Lesson: Self-Hua Ji is Behavioral, Not Fated
自化忌 in any palace indicates a chronic, self-generated pattern of loss in that palace's domain. Unlike external 化忌 (bad economic conditions, being cheated), 自化忌 represents the native's own behavioral decisions creating the leak. This distinction matters enormously for counseling: changing behavior can stop a self-hua leak. The Da Xian shift away from the self-hua palace temporarily stops the bleed. Flying Star Chain Reaction — 三奇嘉會飛星版 Cascading Good Fortune (紫微斗數)
Chart: Female, born ~1988. Experienced a dramatic breakthrough at age 30 when career, wealth, and marriage improved simultaneously within a single year.
Key Formation: 連環飛化 (Lián Huán Fēi Huà / "Chain Flying Transformation") — 化禄 → 化权 → 化科 flowing in sequence across three palaces, each transformation catalyzing the next.
The Chain:
- 命宮 Stem sends 化禄 into 官祿宮 — Career receives abundance from self-initiative
- 官祿宮 Stem sends 化权 into 財帛宮 — Career authority generates wealth power
- 財帛宮 Stem sends 化科 into 夫妻宮 — Wealth reputation attracts quality partner
This three-link chain is the "三奇嘉會飛星版" (Three Wonders Gathering — Flying Star Edition). It activated when her Da Xian shifted at age 28, aligning the Da Xian 命宮 with the starting link. Liu Nian 化禄 reinforced the first link in 2018 (age 30). Result: major promotion (化禄 → 官祿宮) → significant raise (化权 → 財帛宮) → met her future husband at the promotion celebration dinner (化科 → 夫妻宮). Three life domains improved through a single catalytic event in one year.
Lesson: Chain Reactions Explain Cascading Fortune
Fei Xing chain reactions explain why some years bring cascading good fortune (or cascading disaster, if the chain involves 化忌). To find a chain: trace the Stem-by-Stem flight path across palaces. If Palace A's Stem sends a Hua to Palace B, and Palace B's Stem sends a Hua to Palace C, a chain exists. Activation occurs when Da Xian or Liu Nian triggers the first link. Real Estate Loss — 命宮飛忌入田宅宮 (Life Palace Sends Ji into Property Palace) (紫微斗數)
Chart: Male, born ~1968. Lost a significant commercial property investment in 2015 (age 47).
Key Formation: "命宮飛忌入田宅" (Míng Gōng Fēi Jì Rù Tián Zhái) — the Life Palace's own Heavenly Stem sends 化忌 flying into the Property Palace. In Qin Tian interpretation: "My own actions cause property loss."
Configuration: Property Palace (子午宮) contains 太陽 (Tài Yáng). 命宮 Stem generates 太陽化忌 flying into 田宅宮 — property transactions exposed to public scrutiny or dispute (太陽 = exposure; 化忌 = harm from exposure). Triple Convergence: Natal 化忌 → Property Palace. Da Xian 化忌 (age 45–54 Da Xian) also targeted the Property axis. 2015 (乙未年, age 47): Liu Nian 化忌 (太陰化忌) reached the Property axis. When natal + Da Xian + Liu Nian 化忌 all converge on the same palace, manifestation is near-certain. He lost approximately 8 million RMB in a commercial property seized by authorities due to permitting fraud (太陽化忌 = exposed to official scrutiny).
Lesson: The Triple 化忌 Convergence
When analyzing 田宅宮 (Property Palace) risk: (1) Which star receives the flying 化忌? 太陽 = public exposure risk; 太陰 = hidden financial drain; 巨門 = legal disputes; 天機 = planning errors. (2) Does Da Xian 化忌 converge on the same palace? (3) Does Liu Nian 化忌 add a third layer? Triple convergence = near-certain manifestation of the palace's theme as a crisis. Leaking Wealth — Wen Chang Hua Ji in Property Palace (紫微斗數)
Chart: Male, Xin Year.
Key Configuration: 文昌化忌 (Self-Hua Ji) in 田宅宮 (Property Palace / Treasury Palace) — the palace that accumulates wealth over time has a structural hole in its "floor."
The Property Palace in ZWDS represents the "Treasury" — not just real estate, but the capacity to hold and accumulate wealth over time. Wen Chang Hua Ji as Self-Hua Ji in this palace acts like a hole in the pocket. Wen Chang governs documents, contracts, literary matters, and certification. Hua Ji on Wen Chang creates losses specifically through documentary errors — bad contracts, legal fines, certification failures, and financial scams involving paperwork. The subject earned a consistently high salary (strong Wealth Palace) but owned no real estate and had zero savings by age 50. Every savings attempt was undone by document-related financial losses.
Lesson: Property Palace as the Long-Term Treasury
田宅宮 (Property Palace) is not merely about real estate — it is the palace governing what you keep over a lifetime. Any 化忌 (especially Self-Hua Ji) in this palace creates a structural inability to accumulate, regardless of how much flows through the Wealth Palace. The distinction: 財帛宮 governs the current flow of money; 田宅宮 governs what remains after the flow passes. Source: Master Liang Ruoxian (Flying Star) .
Karmic Debt Marriage — Mutual Ji (交互化忌) Between Life and Spouse Palaces (紫微斗數)
Chart: Female, Gui Year.
Key Flying Star Interaction:
- 命宮 (Life Palace): Stem sends 化忌 flying into 夫妻宮 (Spouse Palace)
- 夫妻宮 (Spouse Palace): Stem sends 化忌 flying back into 命宮 (Life Palace)
This is "交互忌" (Jiāo Hù Jì / "Mutual Exchange of Ji") — each palace obstructs the other in a feedback loop. It represents a "karmic debt" relationship: you owe each other something unresolved. The entanglement is painful but deeply difficult to leave. The subject endured a 20-year marriage filled with mutual resentment. They could not divorce due to financial and child-custody entanglements — they were "stuck" in the mutual exchange of Ji energy. Neither could truly move on while in each other's orbit.
Lesson: Mutual Ji as Karmic Entanglement
When two palaces send 化忌 to each other , the Fei Xing school identifies this as a "debt relationship" — neither party can be free until the debt is resolved (through understanding, forgiveness, or physical separation). Unlike a one-directional Ji, mutual Ji cannot be "escaped" through time alone — it requires active resolution. This pattern appears in both romantic relationships (Life ↔ Spouse) and professional ones (Career ↔ Friends). Source: Scribd / General Flying Star Case Records .
