Mangpai (Blindman School) is distinct from all other Bazi systems. It does not care about "balancing" your chart or whether you are "strong" or "weak."

Instead, it views the chart as a battlefield of energy conversion . It asks: "Does this chart perform work?" (Zuo Gong). Success in life is defined by the efficiency with which your "Host" elements (Self) capture, control, or transform the "Guest" elements (World/Wealth).

📜 Origins & Lineage

Unlike the academic "Subing" (Ziping) method documented in classics like Di Tian Sui , the Blindman method was an oral tradition strictly guarded for survival.

Attributed to Gui Gu Zi (Ghost Valley Master) and later refined for the blind community. It was a trade secret: blind practitioners needed a system that was fast, high-impact, and didn't require referencing complex tables.

Key Modern Masters

  • Hao Jin Yang (郝金陽): The legendary blind master who brought the system to light in the modern era. Known for "Iron Mouth" accuracy.
  • Xia Zhong Qi (夏仲奇): Another titan of the blind tradition, famous for his "Image Reading" prowess.
  • Duan Jian Ye (段建業): The sighted disciple who systematized the oral teachings into the "Mangpai" curriculum available today.

1. The Logic of "Doing Work" (做功 Zuo Gong)

In Mangpai, a "Good Life" is not a balanced chart—it is a chart that performs work efficiently. "Work" is defined as the interaction between energy bodies.

Zhi Gong (制功)

Controlling Work: The most aggressive form. The Host forces destroy or restrain the Guest forces.

  • Example: Eating God controls Seven Killings (食神制殺).
  • Result: Great Authority/Power.

He Gong (合功)

Combining Work: The most elegant form. The Self "hugs" the Wealth or Officer.

  • Example: Day Master combines with Direct Wealth (日主合財).
  • Result: Easy wealth, popularity.

Ku Gong (庫功)

Storage Work: Using the Tomb branches (Chen, Xu, Chou, Wei) to trap abundance.

  • Example: Opening the Wealth Pot (開財庫).
  • Result: Sudden, massive wealth accumulation.

Hua Gong (化功)

Transforming Work: Using Seals (Resources) to absorb attacks.

  • Example: Seal transforms Seven Killings (殺印相生).

⚡ Principles of Efficiency

Not all work is equal. Mangpai ranks charts by the "efficiency" of their work:

  • Highest Efficiency: The "Thief" (Wealth/Officer) is huge, and the "Police" (Self) captures it completely. (e.g., Small force controlling large mass).
  • Medium Efficiency: The forces are balanced, requiring constant effort to maintain control.
  • Low Efficiency (No Work): The Self fights the World but captures nothing (wasted energy), or the Self is too weak to control the wealth (wealth burden).
  • Anti-Work (Fan Ju): The Guest controls the Host. This indicates a life of servitude, prison, or poverty.

Traditional Bazi vaguely says "Year Pillar is Grandparents." Mangpai strictly divides the chart into distinct territories.

🖼️ Image Reading (象法 Xiang Fa)

Mangpai practitioners read the "Image" (Xiang) of a pillar. They don't just see "Metal Element"; they see the object.

  • Geng (Metal) + Shen (Monkey): Can image as a Car, a Large Machine, or a Knife.
  • Jia (Wood) + Wu (Horse): A tree burning (Dead Wood) vs. Jia + Chen: A living tree (Live Wood).
  • Application: If "Geng" (Car) clashes with "Yin" (Body), it predicts a traffic accident, not just a "Metal/Wood clash."
🎵 Na Yin (納音 Melodic Elements)

Unlike Wuxing Pai which ignores it, Mangpai uses Na Yin extensively, especially for the Year Pillar .

  • The Year Pillar Na Yin is often treated as the "Ancestral Fate Body."
  • If the Day/Hour Na Yin conquers the Year Na Yin, it can indicate "betraying ancestors" or leaving the homeland.

"Wealth before Seal is a Blessing; Seal before Wealth is a Shame."

Meaning: If Wealth (Material) appears in Year/Month (Early life) and Seal (Wisdom) in Day/Hour (Later life), one converts money into reputation. The reverse implies selling one's reputation for money in old age.

「先財後印，反成其福；先印後財，即为其辱。」

釋義： 財星在年/月（早年），印星在日/時（晚年），意味著年輕賺錢、晚年修名，是福氣。反之，則是晚年為了錢出賣名聲（貪財壞印）。

"Three Chens denote quarrels; Three Wus harm the spouse."

Meaning: Specific triple repetitions of Earthly Branches carry specific curses. Three 'Chen' (Dragons) create legal/argumentative energy. Three 'Wu' (Horses) create a self-punishment fire that burns away the spouse star.

「三辰好鬥傷，三午克夫妻。」

釋義： 地支的三重重複帶有特定凶意。三辰自刑，主口舌是非爭鬥；三午自刑，火勢太旺，焚滅配偶星。
